DE Policies and Procedures

The FA believes that a successful DE program depends on having a strong network of experienced faculty—including DE practitioners and healthy skeptics—working to ensure that the DE courses are of high academic quality.

The rules governing DE courses are shaped primarily by our FA contract. Those contract provisions are linked below.

In addition, the composition of the college's Distance Education Committee (DEC) was significantly revised through an FA-governance collaboration to emphasize the academic role of the recommending body. DEC went from a 50+ person body comprised mostly of administrators to a faculty-centric body with two faculty members representing governance from each of the three campuses in addition to an FA-appointed representative. It is the role of the DEC governance reps to serve as liaisons between DEC and their campus governance bodies, including the campus academic standards and curriculum committees.

As of fall 2022, this is the current composition of the college Distance Education Committee. Eight of the eleven current committee members are FA members.
