Working to Reassure Every Student That #YouBelongHere • reported by Joan Cook (Instructor of Library Services, Ammerman)
JEDI non-classroom faculty members Shannon O'Neill, College Director of Veterans Affairs; Julia Kiely, Interim College Director Mental Health Services; Jennifer Forni, College Assistant Director of Disability Services; Joan Cook, Instructor of Library Services; Christina Vargas, Chief Diversity Officer/Title IX Coordinator; Patty Munsch, Interim Vice President Student Affairs; and Jill Santiago, Director for the Center for Social Justice and Human Understanding worked together to promote the #youbelonghere campaign.
The campaign was originally developed by members of the Undocumented Student Task Force which was created to provide support and resources to undocumented and marginalized students.
During the fall 2021 semester, the group promoted the #youbelonghere campaign on all campuses during Campus Activities Day. T-shirts bearing the #youbelonghere logo were purchased and sold to the campus community. Stickers and window clings were purchased and given out to students.
Finally, a #youbelonghere video was created by Radio and TV students that featured SCCC students sharing their experiences of belonging at SCCC. A second video featuring faculty and administrators is currently being produced.
Future plans include designated days to promote the campaign by wearing the recognizable blue tee shirts, continuing to promote the campaign and using the videos during open houses, orientations and more.
