DE Policies and Procedures

The FA believes that a successful DE program depends on having a strong network of experienced faculty—including DE practitioners and healthy skeptics—working to ensure that the DE courses are of high academic quality.

The rules governing DE courses are shaped primarily by our FA contract. Those contract provisions are linked below. To supplement the core contract language, a number of policies governing distance education have been developed over the years. There are contained in the Distance Education Policies and Procedures Guide.

In addition, the composition of the college's Distance Education Committee (DEC) was significantly revised through an FA-governance collaboration to emphasize the academic role of the recommending body. DEC went from being originally a 50+ person body comprised mostly of administrators to a faculty-centric body with two faculty members representing governance from each of the three campuses in addition to an FA-appointed representative. It is the role of the DEC governance reps to serve as liaisons between DEC and their campus governance bodies, including the campus academic standards and curriculum committees. You can see the current list on our DEC membership page.
