JEDI Institute

JEDI logoIntroducing the JEDI Institute: Making SCCC More Just, Equitable, Diverse, and Inclusive (JEDI) for Minoritized Students

The JEDI Institute is a professional development program co-founded and co-sponsored by the Faculty Association and SCCC administration.

This program aims to help SCCC employees develop specific, concrete ways to make our daily workspaces more just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive for students. The institute provides the space, time, and resources for each participant to reflect on their work and develop individual plans for how they can make their work more "JEDI."

The institute involves three summer sessions culminating in a plan to be implemented in the fall semester. A January follow up session will enable further reflection for a spring semester revision. Successful completion of the JEDI Institute will result in certification and recognition from the college.

Mission Statement

The mission of the JEDI Institute is to make Suffolk County Community College more just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive for minoritized students, which we understand to give primacy to race, ethnicity, country of origin, and documentation status and to be inclusive of socioeconomic status; gender identity, expression, and orientation; religious beliefs; and physical, mental, and intellectual ability.
