JEDI Sample Syllabi • by Cynthia Eaton (Professor of English, Eastern), Misty Curreli, PhD (Associate Professor of Sociology, Eastern), and Jennifer Browne (College Associate Dean for Curriculum Development)

We are developing drafts of sample SCCC syllabi that incorporate JEDI principles, including a mindset of helping students understand what some college jargon means as well as a welcoming and encouraging tone so students know that we are here to help them succeed.

These are presented below based on the five course modalities that we have at SCCC, since modality impacts how attendance is taken and how the weekly schedule of assignments might look. Plus, we think it's important for students to understand what each modality type means for their class participation.

NOTE: These are works in progress as we welcome and continue to receive smart suggestions from colleagues. You'll see a date appended to each file name, which will be updated with each revision. Our email addresses are linked above. Feel free to share your ideas and suggestions too!

We used a generic ABC101 class, so of course revisions will be needed to make the syllabus appropriate for your specific class, but we hope you'll consider adopting or adapting some of the approaches here for a more welcoming approach from your students' perspective. Also, we encourage you to visit the inclusive syllabus links in the External Ideas & Information section of this JEDI Institute website for more ideas and suggestions.
