The Faculty Association (FA) believes that the working conditions of our members enhance the learning conditions and experiences of our students. On March 10, 2020, the FA celebrated its 50th year of advocacy for our hardworking members who transform the lives of SCCC students every single day. For over half a century, the FA has focused on creating a community of union professionals that work together to provide professional salaries and working conditions to enable all of us to enhance and advance our professional careers and to maintain the tradition of excellent public higher education in Suffolk County, New York. The Faculty Association was recognized by the Suffolk County Board of Supervisors in 1970 as Unit III, the official bargaining agent for the full-time classroom faculty, librarians, counselors, specialists and professional assistants of Suffolk County Community College (SCCC). In 1974 the FA also became the bargaining agent for adjunct faculty at SCCC. Our state parent union is New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), and our national parent unions are the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the National Education Association (NEA). Locally, we are members of the Long Island Federation of Labor and of the Suffolk County Organization of Public Employees (SCOPE), which represents all eleven Suffolk County unions. We are proud to be part of a robust labor movement! The FA has a proud tradition of an informed and engaged membership. This award-winning website is one of the ways we communicate with members and with the community. It provides easy access to information about the FA contract provisions and procedures, benefits, pertinent documents and forms, our professional experiences, FA committee work, and our award-winning newsletter, The WORD. All of the above helps us do what we do best: serve the students of SCCC every single day! We even have an FA scholarship in the name of past president Ellen Schuler Mauk that helps students each year as well. We hope you find this website useful. If you have any suggestions regarding our website please email me. In solidarity, Dante E. Morelli, President |
