FA History
As noted on Dante Morelli's President's Desk introduction, the FA was founded on March 10, 1970. The FA was recognized by the Suffolk County Board of Supervisors in 1970 as Unit III, the official bargaining agent for the full-time classroom faculty, librarians, counselors, specialists, and professional assistants of Suffolk County Community College (SCCC). In 1974 the FA also became the bargaining agent for adjunct faculty at SCCC.
For over half a century, the FA has focused on creating a community of union professionals who work together to provide the working conditions that enable all of us to enhance our professional careers and to help ensure that Suffolk County Community College remains a place of educational excellence.
As part of our participation in the NYSUT Local Action Project (LAP) grant from 2022 to 2025, we will be working with our LAP team and membership to develop and post here a more detailed history of the FA and its central role in shaping the quality of education at SCCC.
