- LICSPA presentation on Sara Lopez Garcia case: On November 14, FA Secretary Cynthia Eaton and colleagues offered a presentation at the LICSPA conference at SUNY Old Westbury titled “Voices In/Visible: SCCC Collaborations to Protect Immigrant and Undocumented Students’ Academic, Emotional and Physical Wellbeing.”
In keeping with the FA’s commitment to fighting for fair and equitable treatment of all students, the presentation began with an overview of ICE-detained student Sara Lopez Garcia’s case and how collaborative efforts among faculty, students and administration resulted in significant media coverage as well as an improved set of tools and resources to support students regardless of immigration status.
- Team FA breaks our union records for Making Strides this year: We reported in the November issue of The WORD that our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer team really outdid themselves this year, particularly thanks to the dedication of team leader Joan Cook and our most tireless fundraiser, Associate Professor of Automotive Technology Teresa Noto. At the time of publication for the November issue, the team had raised $2,919.91, but then incoming Grievance Officer John Capurso donated $100 which put our team into record territory with over $3,000 raised this year—more than double our original fundraising goal of $1,500. Thank you, John! Others can still donate here: Team FA Making Strides.
