- End-of-course student opinion surveys: The FA continues to engage in conversations with administration and members about the development of end-of-course student opinion surveys. Administration has made clear that these are not to be called course evaluations.
FA officers Courtney Brewer and Cynthia Eaton both served on the college’s End-of-Course Student Survey Questions Working Group in the spring semester, providing feedback on the draft questions and responding to colleagues’ questions and concerns regarding the implications of these surveys. Our contract has language specific to evaluation of faculty, and these student opinion surveys will not be used in that process. We will keep members informed as conversations continue before they are deployed in the fall 2025 semester.
- Beacon update: FA officers Dante Morelli, Courtney Brewer and Cynthia Eaton are also working with members and administration on the revision of the Beacon liaison program. While the term mentor was used when the dual credit contract provision was developed, we agree that liaison better captures the intent of the faculty members’ role. We are collaborating with two Beacon liaisons in our revision of the Beacon faculty liaison handbook, which is nearing completion, and we serve on the labor-management committee that will negotiate compensation for liaisons. Again, we will keep members apprised as our work moves forward.
- FA and Benefit Fund summer hours: The FA office and the Benefit Fund will be open this summer but closed on Fridays. Given their various vacation days, it’s always wise to email or call Anita (anita@fascc.org, 631-451-4151) or Mary (mary@fascc.org, 631-451-4323) before you swing by.
- Summer 2025 adjunct, overload and other pay dates: According to payroll, faculty and classroom PA’s working this summer can expect to be paid during the sessions in which they are working.
• 1st six-week session (5/27-7/7): June 26, July 10, July 24
• Eight-week session (5/27-7/17): June 26, July 10, July 24, August 7
• 2nd six-week session (7/10-8/19): July 24, August 7, August 21
Nonclassroom PA’s, librarians and members working summer OTA ten-week program and other* assignments will be paid on five of the summer payrolls—again, to the degree possible, during the summer sessions in which you’re working: June 26, July 10, July 24, August 7 and August 21. Contact Payroll for more information. (*Other includes auto, special projects, reassigned time, coordinators and distance ed.)
Similarly, counselors will be paid based on scheduled work assignments on the following payrolls: June 26, July 10, July 24, August 7, August 21 and September 4.
- Fall 2025 dates to know: Faculty should know that the Instructional Faculty Planning Day is scheduled for Thursday, August 28.
In addition, day, evening and online classes for this fall begin on Tuesday, September 2 (for 15-week and the first 7.5-week sessions). Saturday classes begin September 6 and Sunday classes begin September 7. The second 7.5-week session starts on October 23.
