FYI: Updates from the Executive Council and other news of note

  • Do not forget to complete the mandatory Vector trainings by June 30: To remain in compliance with state and federal requirements, the college provides online trainings for all employees to complete on a regular basis. All FA members, full time and adjunct, classroom and nonclassroom, no matter your job title, must complete the trainings. If you have not yet done so, make a note now to be sure to meet the June 30 deadline!

  • FA retirement workshop to be held in fall: The FA typically hosts a retirement workshop for members each spring, hosted by Gerry McGahran of Stacey Braun Associates, Mary Kaffaga of the Benefit Fund and EMHP representatives. Given the popularity of last fall’s workshop, we will be hosting it again this fall in collaboration with the Guild. Watch your email for announcement of the date and time.

  • FA and Benefit Fund summer hours: The FA office and the Benefit Fund will be open this summer but closed on Fridays. Given their various vacation days, it’s always wise to email or call Anita (anita@fascc.org, 631-451-4151) or Mary (mary@fascc.org, 631-451-4323) before you swing by.

  • Summer 2024 adjunct, overload and other pay dates: According to payroll, faculty and classroom PA’s working this summer can expect to be paid during the sessions in which they are working.

    • 1st six-week session (5/21-7/2): June 13, June 27, July 11
    • Eight-week session (5/21-7/16): June 13, June 27, July 11, July 25
    • 2nd six-week session (7/8-8/24): July 25, August 8, August 22

Nonclassroom PA’s, librarians and members working summer OTA ten-week program and other* assignments will be paid on six of the summer payrolls—again, to the degree possible, during the summer sessions in which you’re working: June 13, June 27, July 11, July 25, August 8 and August 22. Contact Payroll for more information. (*Other includes auto, special projects, reassigned time, coordinators, distance ed and applied instrumentalists.)

Similarly, counselors will be paid based on scheduled work assignments on the following payrolls: June 13, June 27, July 11, July 25, August 8, August 22 and September 5.
  • Fall 2024 classes start dates: Please note that day, evening and online classes for this fall begin on Monday, August 26 (for 15-week and the first 7.5-week sessions). Saturday classes begin September 7 and Sunday classes begin September 8. The second 7.5-week session starts on October 17. The full fall 2024 calendar can be found on the SCCC website.

  • EC meeting dates: EC representatives should plan to attend monthly meetings in the upcoming academic year on the following dates, unless otherwise informed. Most meetings are held on Thursdays at 3:45.
