Promotion process: Winding down for some, gearing up for others
Courtney Brewer

  promotion workshop meeting dates

The promotion process for members who applied in June is currently wrapping up.

Forty-one of our members applied for promotion this year. It is amazing to read through the A forms submitted and see the impressive work members are pursuing outside of their contractual obligations. We are lucky to be surrounded by such a talented and diverse faculty, and the college is fortunate to have such top-notch employees.

Within the next month, those who have submitted for promotion will know the outcome. Additionally, those who are eligible for promotion for the 2020-21 academic year will be notified that they will be able to apply by June 15.

Whether you are eligible for promotion next year or you’re new to SCCC, we strongly recommend that you attend one of the promotion workshops that will be held on the following dates from 11 a.m. to 12 noon:

  • March 4 — Ammerman — Southampton 22
  • March 11 — Grant — Captree 113
  • March 25 — Eastern — Peconic 228B

The workshop will include many of the details and eligibility requirements needed for promotion at various levels, i.e., classroom and non-classroom faculty, PAs, and specialists.

So, why should you attend, especially if you’ve attended one in the past?

The expectations for promotion are different for each rank.

Each applicant has a unique situation—individual experiences with teaching/working, service and professional development—so this is your chance to get answers to your own questions from me and your campus executive dean.
