  FA food pantry donations

  • Help stock campus food pantries: SCCC students are facing hunger, and it is hard to stay focused when feeling hungry. The FA perennially donates to the three campus food pantries, but the need is even more acute right now as cuts to SNAP and other food assistance programs mean more students are turning to our campus food pantries every day—and they are running low on donations more and more often.

Most needed are shelf-stable foods like pasta, rice, peanut butter, canned vegetables and soups as well as frozen foods including meats, veggies and ready-to-cook meals. You can help by bringing donations directly to your campus food pantry; organizing a food drive through your office, department or student club; or spreading the word since every donated item makes a difference. Pantry locations and hours are as follows:
  • Ammerman — Babylon Student Center Lower Level
Monday to Friday 10 to 4
    ammrfoodpantry@sunysuffolk.edu
    631-451-4376

  • Eastern — Peconic Campus Activities Office
Monday to Friday 9 to 5
    eastfoodpantry@sunysuffolk.edu
    631-548-2522

  • Grant — Nesconset Hall 11B
    Tuesday & Wednesday 1 to 4 pm
    grantfoodpantry@sunysuffolk.edu
    631-851-6702
  • Priority registration starts this week: To help ensure strong enrollment of students from fall through to the spring semester, please announce priority registration in your classes and to all of the students you see in your offices and workspaces.

Also, classroom faculty need to serve four of their contractual eight hours of advisement in their campus Academic Advisement & Mentoring Center as well as post their hours on their office door and notify the appropriate administrator of their available advisement hours.

  • Retirement workshop materials: The very popular annual retirement workshop—which this year included FA, Guild and AME participants—was held on Friday, October 3. Between the on-campus meeting and Zoom participants, we had a record 137 participants!

Our presenters graciously agreed to share their PowerPoint materials with us:
  • Mary Kaffaga, Administrator, FA Benefit Fund
  • Maggie Brown and Sue DiFiore, Employee Medical Health Plan (EMHP)
  • Gerry McGahran, Director of Financial Planning, Stacey Braun Associates
  • Angelica Rivera and Bridget Haller, SCCC Human Resources
