FA Discussion Series & The Write Time
Sarah Kain Gutowski

The Write Time

The Faculty Association continues to bring our membership together in supportive ventures this semester, providing peer mentorship and regular opportunities for scholarly and professional development.

Faculty Association Discussion Series

The FA Discussion Series continues this semester with the following dates and times scheduled:

  • Working While Resting: What You Can Learn from My Sabbatical Friday, February 24, 11 am to 12:15 pm. Mildred Green Room, Babylon Student Center, Ammerman Campus.

Faculty from various departments across the college will reflect briefly on the sabbatical application process, and then focus on the ways they tackled their research, scholarship and writing projects once their sabbatical was granted. Panelists will discuss potential problems and pitfalls, and the benefits of half-year versus full-year sabbaticals, with an eye towards helping fellow faculty plan for an academically-purposed “extended period of leave.”

  • The Art of the A-Form: What You Can Learn from My First Promotion Cycle—Friday, April 21, 11 am to 12:15 pm. Mildred Green Room, Babylon Student Center, Ammerman Campus

The Write Time

The Write Time provides the college community with a peaceful, distraction-free space and hours in which faculty may do the writing and research needed to complete individual scholarship, artistic work and thesis writing that often takes second or third place to teaching and committee assignments. Too often, we don't give ourselves the necessary permission to turn away from grading or reports and focus on these other important facets of faculty life.

Faculty are invited to bring their notepads, pens, looseleaf paper, laptops and books to the Ammerman Campus to work in a quiet, shared space alongside colleagues who also need to compartmentalize their time and effort.

Coffee and tea, essential fuel for most writers, will be served. To better serve you, please let us know in advance if you plan to attend: contact Anita by phone (631-451-4151) or email (anita@fascc.org).
