This year, the Retirees Association of Suffolk Community College (RASCC) provided two $1,000 Legacy Fellowship Grants, and we encourage you to consider applying and/or donating to support this fund.

This year’s projects

The recipients of the 2025-26 grants are Natasha McCombs, assistant director of the Grant Academic Success Center, and Michael Levine, instructor of visual arts at Grant. To provide support for students in the RESTART Program on the Grant Campus, Natasha’s project was to develop booklets to streamline finding information at SCCC. These booklets are designed to improve the academic success of students who encounter scholastic challenges.

Michael Levine is a new FA member teaching visual arts on the Grant Campus. For Michael’s project, “Public Art Project: Steam Roller Collaborative Printmaking,” with the use of a Suffolk County Highway Department steamroller, art students created large woodcuts on April 15. Their finished art projects will be shared with the college community, and you can see pictures of the process and projects on the RASCC website.

How to apply for a $1,000 grant

The RASCC Legacy Fellowship Grant provides up to $1,000 to creative members of the college community who propose a project or activity not currently provided by the college that will enhance the educational experiences of SCCC students.

All college employees can apply. A list of past recipients and projects as well as the application are on the RASCC website.

The submission deadline for next year’s proposals is May 3, 2027, so you have time to develop a strong proposal.

How to support the grant

The RASCC Legacy Fellowship Grant is just one of the ways SCCC retirees support the mission of the college. To support the Legacy Fellowship Grant by making a dedicated donation, visit the SCC Foundation website, click “areas of greatest need” and in the comments section type Legacy Fellowship Grant. Donations can also be made by sending a check made out to SCCC Foundation c/o Pete Herron, 98 Rocky Point Landing Road, Rocky Point, NY 11778.

Thank you for your support. If you have a creative idea to benefit students that needs funding, be sure to apply next year.
