June 2014
In keeping with every good union’s commitment to building and maintaining a strong sense of commun- ity, both internally and externally, the FA’s community outreach team ran a series of wonderful events this past academic year.
Professors on Wheels has grown so that it now touches over 3,000 enthusiastic participants in nursing homes and care facilities across Suffolk County.
TEAM FA again raised money for breast cancer research via the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Jones Beach last October. If you have not yet seen our unique breast cancer quilt proudly displayed among the campuses, keep an eye out!
Along with the annual AHRC plant sales and Fair Trade sales and informational presentations, new events and collaborative activities have been added this year. One of these was the innovative Food Flip Day for food pantries?yet one more way to help our brothers and sisters in need during tough times.
Lots of opportunities are available to become involved, a lot or a little (we’re all busy these days, it seems). TEAM FA is looking for “campus champs” to help organize specific activities. Spreading the work makes it more pleasant for everyone?and more effective.
See your EC representative for details on how to get involved!
TEAM FA (Totally Enthused, Active Members of the Faculty Association) community outreach members and the newly organized SOULS (Suffolk’s Organization for Uplifting Lives through Service) in Business club at the Eastern campus display the banner used to raise funds for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Jones Beach. Join us again this October. Above, from left, are FA president Kevin Peterman, SOULS secretary Katherine Vitale, SOULS vice president Amanda Rehm, SOULS treasurer Dylan Lasorsa, SOULS president Lisa Cannataro and FA community outreach coordinator/SOULS faculty advisor Tim McHeffey. |
