As executive vice president, this was the first year that I oversaw promotions for the FA.

More than 60 of our members were up for promotion this year. As I read through A-forms and met with faculty and executive deans, I was impressed with the amount of incredible work the faculty are pursuing outside of their contractual obligations. We are lucky to be surrounded by such a talented and diverse faculty who aim to make our students better citizens.

Within the next month, those who have submitted for promotion will know the outcome of their promotion. Additionally, those who are eligible for promotion for the 2019-20 academic year will be notified that they will be able to apply by June 15.

Whether you are eligible for promotion next year or you’re new to SCCC, we strongly recommend that you attend one of the promotion workshops that will be held on the following dates from 11 a.m. to 12 noon:

  • March 6 — Grant — Sagtikos 259/260
  • March 13 — Eastern — Peconic 228B
  • March 20 — Ammerman — BSC Mildred Greene Room

The workshop will include many of the details and eligibility requirements needed for promotion at various levels, i.e., classroom and non-classroom faculty, PAs, and specialists.

So, why should you attend, especially if you’ve attended one in the past?

The expectations for promotion are different for each rank.

Each applicant has a unique situation—individual experiences with teaching/working, service and professional development—so this is your chance to get answers to your own questions from me and your campus executive dean.
