Happy October, all! This update covers wages and compassionate leave, NORA and Vector training reminders, promotion workshops, adjunct meet and greet/office hours, Banner information, the Calm benefit and important dates. Wages and compassionate leave I am delighted to remind you that you will see a raise in your paycheck this fall, as the memo of agreement states, “Effective with the start of the Fall 2024 semester, the adjunct/overload rate shall be increased an additional 3% at each rank.” The FA also negotiated compassionate leave for adjunct faculty in the current contract:
While we hope you never need to think about compassionate leave, we are proud to have negotiated it for you and relieved to know it is there if you need it. We can report that one of our adjunct members received this benefit during a crisis situation last semester. We work hard to negotiate benefits for you and are thankful that this benefit aided a colleague in need. This is a reminder that the NORA forms for winter and spring open on October 14 and the deadline to submit the form is October 29. Make sure you submit the NORA form on time to be eligible for an assignment next semester—and make it a practice to save a copy of your confirmation as proof of submission. I recently learned that 300+ adjunct members have not completed the Title VI Vector training that was due on September 30. Remember, this is not an SCCC requirement but a SUNY requirement. If you have not yet completed this training, do so immediately to ensure your eligibility for assignments. Promotion workshops FA Executive Vice President Courtney Brewer and I held two adjunct promotion workshops on September 17 and 20. We covered the promotion cycle, requirements for promotion, the promotion application and tips for observations. You can find much of this information in the adjunct promotion section on the FA website. At the end of each workshop, there was an informative Q&A session. We also offered to review applications for members and serve as their FA peer during the promotion observation. The observation forms for promotion are due on November 25.
Adjunct meet and greet/FA office hours The officers introduced themselves to the adjunct faculty who attended our Zoom meet and greet on October 7. We primarily discussed best practices for student behavior after the pandemic and students’ lack of technological knowledge when taking an online class. If you missed the meet and greet, don’t despair! You can meet with some of the officers at the scheduled FA office hours this semester.
And, as many of you already know, I would love to meet with you on your campus or at the FA office to field questions or concerns. Feel free to contact me for an appointment. Banner 9 Information I am still receiving questions regarding the adjunct seniority information page this semester. Below are the directions to find the adjunct seniority information page in Banner:
I am aware that your rank number does not appear on this page, but I am working on adding it with the help of Dean Gherardi in Adjunct Services. In the meantime contact me, and I can give you your rank number. To download the free app, follow the instructions on this NYSUT Member Benefits webpage and please note that to add dependents you must do so on the calm.com site and not in the app itself. Important Dates
Don’t hesitate to contact me at kimn@fascc.org if you have questions regarding the above or any other union-related issues. I hope you all get a chance to get out and enjoy the fall weather. Best, Kim |
