November 5 is the day! Next Tuesday is Election Day and we encourage all registered members, colleagues and students to get out there and vote. You can look up your voter registration status and polling place by going to the NYS Voter Registration and Poll Site Search. We also ask that you consider supporting the candidates for Suffolk County Legislature that our Executive Council voted to endorse at our August 29 meeting (see table below). The FA's political action committee screened candidates on July 8-10. We invited all candidates to be screened, indicating that our rules probhit us from endorsing any candidate that we don't meet with for a screening.
During the screenings we ask questions about issues relating to what our members need to most effectively provide for our students as well as other labor-related issues. We establish the incumbent candidates' past support of the college, public education and other labor issues and, for the non-incumbents, we establish their beliefs about these issues and inquire about actions from any previous elected positions. This is what FA endorsements are based on, not candidates' political parties or other factors. The FA political action committee consists of the six officers—Dante Morelli, Courtney Brewer, Cynthia Eaton, Peter DiGregorio, Kevin McCoy, and Kim Ng Southard—as well as Nick Giordano (Political Science, Ammerman) and Bruce Seger (Library, Grant).
Below you will find a table showing the candidates endorsed by the FA political action committee and Executive Council for the 2019 elections for the positions of county executive as well as for the 18 county legislators. Please note that all endorsed candidates happen to be incumbents this year.
