We know different students have different needs when it comes to how you learn best. That's why SCCC offers a variety of ways to take your classes.

Some course types require you meet your professor and classmates at a physical location on specific dates and times, some never require you to meet in person, and some require you to meet virtually on specific dates and times via videoconference (such as Zoom).

Students can enroll in distance education classes from any campus; you are not limited to your home campus. Select the course types that best meet your learning and scheduling needs.

Course types that meet on campus or have a mix of remote and on campus

1. Traditional on-campus classes meet on campus/on site on specific days and times, like MW 9:30-10:45 or TR 2-3:15. Your professor will post the class syllabus in a Brightspace class website (as well as perhaps other course materials) and may use it as a way to submit assignments.
2. Blended classes (BLD) meet on campus/on site on some days and times (less often than a traditional on-campus class), and you'll do the rest of your coursework online—either in Brightspace or via videoconference such as Zoom. Make sure you attend all of the scheduled on-campus sessions as well as complete the online work.
3. Sufflex classes combine real-time online (RT ONL) and traditional on-campus instruction simultaneously into one class. In specially designed classrooms, some students meet in person while others participate on Zoom. Note: Because you must register for either the in-person or remote (Zoom) section—you cannot switch between them during the semester—in the class schedule, look for the same CRN between any RT ONL and traditional on-campus class to see if it's in the Sufflex model.

Course types that are fully remote (no on-campus class meetings)

1. Real-time online classes (RT ONL) meet remotely via videoconference such as Zoom. 100% of the scheduled class meetings take place remotely in real time on Zoom, and the rest of your coursework is done online in a Brightspace class website. For example, a real-time online class might be scheduled for MW 12:30-1:45 and have Zoom meetings at those times.
2. Combined online classes (COMB ONL) meet remotely via video-conference such as Zoom, but 50% of the scheduled class meetings take place remotely in real time on Zoom, and the rest of your coursework is done online in a Brightspace class website. For example, a combined online class might be scheduled for only M 12:30-1:45 so you log in only on Mondays and do the rest of the coursework online.
3. Fully online or asynchronous classes (ONL) do not meet on site or at any specific times. Coursework happens in Brightspace on set due dates and times, so you’ll work with your class, but there are never set times when you have to meet your class virtually or on campus.
