Happy New Year, everyone!

This adjunct update covers the following: spring adjunct orientation, Executive Council representation, adjunct promotion workshops, the professional development fund, the seniority list and upcoming important dates.

Spring adjunct orientation

I welcomed 22 of our new adjunct colleagues and presented a brief introduction of the FA at the adjunct orientation hosted by Dean Chris Gherardi, Michele Fitzpatrick and Donna Krompinger from Adjunct Services on Thursday, January 19. The FA provided survival kits and the revised adjunct rights and benefits overview pamphlet for each adjunct.

The survival kit is a Glad bag filled with handy items for new faculty members, such as FA bookmarks, FA lanyards, granola bars, tissues and chalk. The revised adjunct rights and benefits overview pamphlet briefly summarizes most of what adjuncts need to know about their rights and benefits at the college. If you want me to send you a print copy of the brochure, email me at kimn@fascc.org.

Executive Council representation

There are currently four adjunct FA Executive Council vacancies. We need to fill them so that these areas have a voice at EC meetings. If one of these areas is yours, consider running and representing your area or nominate someone you think would be an effective representative. The following areas have vacancies:

  • PAs and Specialists - Academic Skills Centers
  • PAs and Specialists - Instructional Labs
  • Nursing, Health Science and Physical Education
  • Library, Culinary, Fire Science, Electrical Tech, Drafting, Interior Design

Adjunct promotion workshops

I am excited to announce that we will host two adjunct promotion workshops this semester. We will cover the requirements for adjunct promotion, tips for promotion observations and questions.

  • Feb 21, 4 pm — Ammerman Mildred Green Room, Babylon Student Center
  • Feb 24, 11 am — Zoom meeting

Adjunct professional development fund

Adjunct professional development funds for conferences are still available for spring 2023. Adjunct members can apply for $750 per year for conference attendance. Submit your professional development fund forms to the Office of Faculty and Professional Advancement. Do note that this fund only covers conferences.
